I will start off by saying...
Do I genuinely care if Julian Edelman tested positive for PEDS, no... Do I think he's stupid & does it annoy me, yes 110% to my freaking core.
My reason for not caring personally is because it doesn't effect my career, he's not harming me, he's not harming anyone else, and bottom line it's a professional athlete and it is somewhat expected from time to time.
From a fan stand point it makes me want to puke. As a New England Patriots fan, the success is absolutely indescribable. BUT dealing with situations like #SpyGate, #DeflateGate, being called a cheater, and now steroid issues is an absolute nightmare. I think any fan, or athlete would take the wins that we have for the constant controversies, but it's getting old, and trying to argue the Patriots success with any outsider has officially become impossible.
Bottom line, it's extremely mind blowing to me because Jules knows the drill, he has been in the league for 10+ years, is aware that the Patriots system is hard core, and understands that the team is under a microscope for every single move they make (I am not a conspiracy person, but Peytons wife was confirmed getting shipments of drugs to their house and that was a story for .1 second, where this is going to be a story for the next 10+ years). I am sure he is already regretting it and is going to everyday for the rest of his life because the backlash that will negatively effect his relationships (teammates, family, daughter & coaches), brand (what parent is buying a children's book for an athlete getting suspended for drugs), and pretty good chance his "legacy" (he has made some great plays in huge games, it would suck to be remembered only for this).
Again, do I personally care about his relationships, brand, or legacy, no, not really. As a fan, I care about winning and not having to deal with the rest of this bullshit. If athletes want to take the chance of taking steroids, you do you. However, the second you get caught and cause the team to lose focus, lose a game or hurt my chance of a seeing duck boats roam the streets of Boston in February, we are going to have some problems.
Overall take your chances with steroids/synthetic weed (cc: Chandler Jones), just know that no one is greater than the team, so your one way ticket to a 4-12 team will always be only a click away.
Side Note: If BB sits Malcom in a Super Bowl game for speaking out, I am genuinely afraid what he will do to Jules later in this season for causing the team a MASSIVE distraction. Also, shut up to the people that are extremely distraught about this, get over it. He didn't raise his hand to a women (or child), abuse animals, or kill another human being. Patriots Nation has unfortunately seen worse, so relax.
Let the curse of Jimmy G begin......
